It’s raining. Rain, rain, rain. It rained Monday. It rained Tuesday. It poured Wednesday. It’s sprinkling today. It’s raining so much that all of my local friends jokes on facebook about building an ark might not be too far from the truth. While admiring the flood in my neighbors front yard yesterday afternoon, I failed to notice that at the same time , the water in the 4 foot deep drainage ditch that flows behind our property was seeking higher ground…towards my back porch. It certainly wasn’t a flash flood of epic proportions, but it did flood in a flash.
Helloooooo Tropical Storm Nicole! Nothing like flooded streets to put a total damper on your running. Needless to say I missed yesterday’s tempo run. Thankfully, I sort of ran my recovery run 1 minute per mile faster than I should have the day before. So maybe we will call it even.
While an abundance of water in my backyard isn’t really ideal, an abundance of water in my body is key.
Confession time! I don’t drink enough water. Do you?
I’m not talking the 8x8oz a day that you’ve heard ever since you were little. I’m talking, some days I have to stop and think “did I drink any water today?” As an athlete, ESPECIALLY an endurance athlete, I should be highly ashamed of myself.
So in attempts to better hydrate my poor body, I’ve been carrying around a water bottle 24/7. It’s a lot easier to make yourself drink water when it’s right next to you. Sounds pretty lazy doesn’t it? Well it works.
So needless to say I was pretty stoked when I was contacted by Cafepress and asked if I would review one of their custom SIGG bottles. But of course I would! Half the fun in this water bottle was designing it. Ok, I admit, I saw a similar bottle and tweaked it a little, made some letters PINK (of course) and added my new training mantra “Fear No Distance”. And then, voila, hydrating in (environmentally friendly) style!
The SIGG bottles are great. Lightweight yet durable, and easy to drink from. If you’ve never been to cafepress.com you should check it out. You can find millions of personalized gifts, hooded sweatshirts, and 2011 wall calendars at CafePress – for any topic, interest or brand! Lots of great gifts for runners and triathletes in there.
And, you can even open your own shop for free. Here’s mine, with all of my Microsoft paintbrush artwork. One day I’ll enter the 21st century and learn how to use photoshop, haha. I don’t expect to make millions, or even one sale, but it was fun to design a few things. Those of you with more creative (and computer savvy) talent should try designing a few items!
Anyway, those of you in the North East, batten down the hatches and dig out your umbrellas. That storm is on it’s way. Meanwhile…I’m hoping I can take a boat out to the main road today and get in a few miles!
Happy running my friends!
