Woah 11 days since the last post huh? I’ve had a few professors over the years who use the term “housekeeping” to bring us up to date on whatever they need to update us on. It appears I need to pull a little housekeeping around these parts, since it’s been so long.
So let me start by saying I can not begin to express how THANKFUL I am for each and every one of you. The decision to open up (last post) a little and share what is going on in my world right now was therapeutic enough, but the outpouring of support, comments, emails, etc was just overwhelming. I cried a lot that night, but for once, instead of tears of hopelessness and frustration, they were tears of HOPE. Yeah, yeah, sounds sappy and Hallmark commercial like, but it was true. So virtual hug to all of you, whether you want on or not (I’m a hugger!)
I was initially coming here to tell you this crazy story about an azalea bush trimming session turned-propane gas line severing, 4+ fire truck brigade, and ten or so firefighters wearing full gear (even face mask) event here at my house Wednesday afternoon, but then I got distracted by the calendar.
Turns out my next triathlon, the one I’ve had months, then weeks to train for…is in 7 days. Hahaha, whoops! The chaos around here lately has been, well, chaotic, and in the end of the year battle to finish all of these projects, papers, and exams, training has DEFINITELY taken it’s spot on the back burner. You do what you’ve got to do, right? So I wonder…can you cram for a triathlon like you can cram for an exam? You know, if I swim everyday this week before the race…
I’m kidding, I’m kidding. I’ve already accepted the fact that this tri will be a “fun” race, no more, no less. An excuse to get out of the house, to try and repair the relationship I have with my new bike (and it’s new saddle, here’s hoping!), and to get a few miles under my feet. It makes me smile to think that one year ago, I was FREAKING OUT over this exact same race. It would be my very first triathlon, and I was doubtful I could even swim 300 yards. Now, a year later, I am in the mindset that, yeah, I haven’t been training, but what’s 300 yards? That’s nothing. Oooh look at me, maybe I AM meant to be a triathlete after all!
Speaking of which…our Team Trakkers kits haven’t come in yet, so I was super excited to wear my Team FIGHT kit again. Until I tried it on. Holy-too-much-queso-and-not-enough-guacamole, it doesn’t fit. *sigh* stress eating! I’ve ho-ed and hum-ed and whined about my bad habits lately, but nothing like a big, fat, wake up call in the form of completely unforgiving tri shorts and top to snap you out of it. Fitday.com, here I come.
But the good news is, I only have three weeks of classes to go, 4 weeks if you count finals. The same thing happened to me last year (training pushed aside due to burnout due to school) and I overcame it. I know the same will happen this year. I’ll be back to training and harassing everyone via Twitter and Blogger in no time 🙂
And in other exciting news, I sat for an interview for an internship this summer at a local city gym/rec center. I’m beyond excited for more hands on experience…and to help out with their kids triathlon summer camp (among others). How cool is that?!?! I’m really, really, really looking forward to this opportunity. It’s been SUCH a long road with school, I’m still shocked that I’m actually at this point.
So there you go. Housekeeping complete. Sorry for the silence lately, but I’ve got a Sony Walkman (yeah, they still make them!) review and giveaway coming this week, along with a ton more to say (what else is new)
