Time flies when you have no idea what you are doing.
There has been this video regarding “unplugging” and “looking up from your (computer, phone, etc) screen”, ironically enough, going viral across the internet over the past 48 hours. Now, all jokes about everyone RSVPing via social media for an “unplugging” day aside, I am a huge fan of ditching the screens on a regular basis. In fact, almost exactly one year ago I was out frolicking through the woods for an entire weekend completely unplugged, when I missed the auto renew failure notice (or many of them) for my former blog domain, Run Faster, Mommy!, and subsequently lost it to the abyss of the world wide web (and pretty quickly into the hands of someone else.) You may remember it, as I probably made the whole situation far more dramatic than it needed to be (or far less than the situation deemed necessary, depending on which side of the social media fence you are on.) Faced with the choice of fighting like hell with the faceless, nameless, and really hard to find contact info of the ambiguous “internet” or rebrand, I reluctantly chose to rebrand.
Out of the reluctance came the suggestion of “Relentless Forward Commotion” from one of my very closest friends. I’ll be honest, at the time I didn’t love it. But it was the best suggestion at the time and I was pressed for something, anything, so I went with it. Turns out it would be the most fitting name anyone could have ever come up with.
A year later, and things are still as chaotic as ever. I changed career directions again. I moved again, and we are currently in the planning stages of another huge move. I sit here debating a one legged burpee workout because I managed to bruise my left foot willingly running up and down rocky mountains this past weekend. I just painted my toenails black because it is literally the only color that will camouflage the gnarly state my feet are currently in enough that I can wear sandals without traumatizing others. I’m counting down the days until my kids are on summer vacation, and also the days until I possibly face race-day electrocution. Good, bad, and indifferent (but mostly good) we keep moving forward. Relentless Forward Commotion.
Two weeks ago I attended a focus group for a large athletic company. Before hand, I was asked to submit a headshot and my logo. Of course, I had neither, so I threw something together and called it a day. But it made me think that maybe, just perhaps, this little blog deserved an official logo. A friend recommended another friend who designs such things He asked me what I had in mind, and the truth was: not much. And like a truly talented artist, he took my direction of “I don’t know, something grungy I guess” and came up with this. And I love it.
So on that note, I’m headed back into the woods for the weekend. Completely unplugging. Have no fear, I checked the status of my url; we’re good for another year.
