My Story (a post for tribal running)

My Story (a post for tribal running)

So recently I joined this neat little online running community, "tribal running". A blog topic on the board was to post your most inspirational running moment. This is the story I wrote... "My Story". Well really, it's "Her Story", but her story tells the tale of how I was inspired to become a runner, so I'd like to share. February 2005. My loving, crazy older sister had somehow convinced, Continue reading →

Coach Garmin…I love to hate you!

Two years ago, when Rowen was a little baby and I had just really started getting into running, the Nike + system was released. Being a bit of a gadget obsessed kinda person, I had to have it. It was great at first. I loved not having to drive my car along my running route to figure out how far I'd gone the day before. And I was over the moon the day Lance Armstrong came on over my i pod after a Continue reading →

I got to wake up at 11:00, 1:30, and 4:30 a.m. to nurse the baby, fill a sippy cup, and nurse the baby respectively. Then I woke up at 6:00 am to start the day.I got to wash 2 loads of dishes and 4 loads of Continue reading →

2009 Little River Blue Crab Festival 5k – race report

2009 Little River Blue Crab Festival 5k – race report

To summarize this race in one word: HOT Last night proved to have little to no sleep. A bit of a "sister" emergency, that I was MORE than happy to be able to be there for/help out with, so I'm not complaining, just saying: I didn't sleep last night. I had a bad feeling about this race from the start. Jan (mother in law) , Hope (sister in law) , the boys (Kain and Rowen) and I left our Continue reading →

Fun Sun Run 5k – 2009

Fun Sun Run 5k – 2009

Today I ran the Fun Sun Run at Huntington Beach state park . Joining me on this adventure were my two babies, and my mother in law Jan and sister in law Hope. (Hope was also running) We arrived nice and early, and then stood around for quite sometime! According to the director, in 2007 there were a hand full of racers....in 2008 maybe 80.....today, hundreds (final count still out). The line of Continue reading →

the luck o’ the Irish…

IT DIDN'T RAIN!! ok maybe a few drops here and there, but overall the weather was *perfect* for our races today. 55-ish and overcast, no wind, and most importantly , no rain. So G.J. (short for Grandma Jan, rich's mom), Hope (Rich's sister) , Rowen, Kain and I made the trip up to North Myrtle Beach where we met up with the Naatz's, the DeSoto's, and Holly T. Got our bibs and shirts, and Continue reading →

kicking cancers butt…26.2 miles at a time…

Hey everyone, I’m at it again! I was looking for a fall marathon and came across the perfect combination…this October, I will be running the Baltimore Marathon (26.2 miles) as a part of TEAM FIGHT, in support of the Ulman Cancer Fund for Young Adults. The UCF provides support programs, education and resources, free of charge, to young adults, their families and friends, who are affected by Continue reading →

Meet Heather

I'm Heather, mom of two, ACSM Certified Exercise Physiologist, and an overzealous athlete who cannot focus on a single discipline, so I train for all of them at the same time. When in doubt, I run...and then write about it. Read More…

100 Mile Packing List: What to Bring to an Ultramarathon

100 Mile Packing List: What to Bring to an Ultramarathon

Confession: I'm pretty sure I pack more "stuff" to run a 100 miler than I do for a week long vacation. Packing for an ultramarathon is a learned art form, and frankly, ultras require a lot of gear. If you're facing your first 100 miler, you may be wondering what items are essential, or fearful of … [Read More...]

Commotion Chronicles: 11/25-12/1/19

Nearly ten (10!!) years ago, on this very blog, I started a little something called the "Sunday Review". I would share a roundup of products I liked that week. Alas, a decade ago I was also a full time student with two toddlers at home, and rarely was I able to follow through with any sort of … [Read More...]

8 Pros & Cons of Waterproof Running Shoes

8 Pros & Cons of Waterproof Running Shoes

Mention wet feet to any runner, and you're likely to be met with a cringe. Prolonged wet feet can make the difference between a good run, and a miserable run. Wet feet during long distance running can leave you at risk for things like blisters, hot spots, or worse, macerated feet. (If you've never … [Read More...]
