RELENTLESS FORWARD COMMOTION

Adventure may hurt you, but monotony will kill you.

the leaves are falling everywhere…THAT MEANS IT’S FALL!

the leaves are falling everywhere…THAT MEANS IT’S FALL!

it's a song on Yo Gabba Gabba, I'm not yelling at you I promise."It is fall, it is fall...the leaves are falling everywhere...THAT MEANS IT'S FALL!" I can't get it out of my head, and if you are a lucky parent who watches Noggin (err I mean, Nick Jr.) it's probably stuck in yours now. You are welcome.Today feels like FALL! Well, for us in South Carolina at least. 50 degrees, sunny, and a crisp Continue reading →

mommy musings

mommy musings

Thursday, my baby Kain turned one. Except I'm in complete denial about it, so I'm sparing you the long sappy picture post. Because I don't want him to be one. How did that happen so fast? It's almost surreal to think that my sweet baby boy will soon be talking back with the best of them, telling me "no" and getting a huge kick out of begging mommy and daddy to put together the Thomas wooden train Continue reading →

What doesn’t kill you only makes you stronger.

What doesn’t kill you only makes you stronger.

If nothing else, this less than ideal marathon last weekend has certainly re-lit the "I LOVE RUNNING" fire under my booty.I'm not sure how the people at the Ulman Cancer Fund got their hands on these pictures, but I'm sooo happy they did. One of the pace leader's (girl in the front, next to me, with the orange visor) Dad was standing on top of a bridge somewhere around mile 12, taking pictures. So Continue reading →

Baltimore Marathon 2009 – the good, the bad, and the disgusting

"Run when you can, walk when you have to, crawl if you must; just never give up." ~Dean Karnazes 2009 Baltimore Marathon 1st 13.1 split: 2:08:11 2nd 13.1 split: 2:52:35 chip time: 5:00:46 For those of you simply interested in my review of the Baltimore Marathon itself, here you go: I would recommend it. Hilly, and not always the most scenic route (i.e. we ran through numerous neighborhoods Continue reading →

Well THAT was fast!

Well THAT was fast!

whoa...where does the time go! It seems like yesterday I started this blog and wrote this post. It also seems like yesterday my baby was born, yet he will turn one a week from today. But that's another topic I don't even want to think about right now!!Anyway, as quickly as the time went by since I signed on with TEAM FIGHT to run the 2009 Baltimore running festival marathon, a lot has happened.I Continue reading →

oh Mother Nature, I forgot you’ll be joining us…

Living on the beach in the South sometimes tends to make you forget that the weather isn't always at least 65 and somewhat sunny. Yesterday, mother nature reminded us of that fact with a cold, wet, rainy day. Fall is here. As I was walking across campus, cursing myself for not owning an umbrella (note to self, add that to the shopping list) I began to think about this weekend and almost stopped in Continue reading →

Jillian Michaels is officially off of my "cool" list.

Jillian Michaels. I admired you. You have a rocking body. You inspire(d) people to lose weight and lead healthier lifestyles through your actions and your kick ass training.I wanted to be just like you. Now, I just think you are a sellout.Last night at work, i was killing some time looking through advertisements from the Sunday paper when I saw it towards the back of the Walgreens flyer: Jillian Continue reading →

VO2max results: Further proof that…

VO2max results: Further proof that…

... my endurance addiction might run a little too deep:I didn't get to finish my VO2max test, and I was devastated over it. No really, I felt tears well up for a second. Here I was, not wanting to fall off the treadmill or otherwise embarrass myself in front of my peers. Instead, I almost cried over not being able to do something that everyone else in the class was thankful they didn't have to Continue reading →

lab rat and entry fees

Last week in exercise physiology lab, my professor asked for a volunteer to do a VO2Max test. I jumped on the opportunity. I've wanted to do a VO2Max test for a while now, mainly out of curiosity. I may not be in peak (or even close) shape at the moment, bur really, how can you beat a free (well, free with tuition) test?? I've heard that sucker can cost hundreds of dollars elsewhere! Luckily for Continue reading →

Life Altering.

Life Altering.

3 years ago today, my life changed forever.3 years ago today, I became a mommy. The 40 weeks (to the day, Rowen was born on his due date) of pregnancy that I spent wondering what motherhood would be like could have never prepared me for the actual task. There was nothing on earth that could have prepared me for the overwhelming strength of a mothers love.Motherhood has been the most challenging, Continue reading →

Meet Heather

I'm Heather, mom of two, ACSM Certified Exercise Physiologist, and an overzealous athlete who cannot focus on a single discipline, so I train for all of them at the same time. When in doubt, I run...and then write about it. Read More…

A Running Decade in Review: 10 Years of Commotion (part 1/3)

Every now and then I see the meme floating around Facebook that says something to the effect of "I still think the 90's were ten years ago". I laugh - because it's true. 2020 is upon us, and I'm feeling decepted by the concept of time. Needless to say, when the idea to write this blog post came … [Read More...]

Miles, Mind Tricks, & Ultramarathon Hallucinations

Prior to my entrance into the world of ultramarathon, I had always imagined hallucinations to include terrifying scenarios. The kind of things that I'd have to remind myself were not real. Being chased by unidentifiable monsters that were out to get me. Hearing creepy voices calling to me in the … [Read More...]

7 Things Every Runner Should Do At Least Once in their Lifetime

7 Things Every Runner Should Do At Least Once in their Lifetime

There are two covenants that I hold dear when it comes to running. First: never take running too seriously (unless you are literally getting paid to win races, which I am not). Second: never forget how lucky you are to be able to run. Unfortunately, even the best of us can get caught so caught … [Read More...]
