You’ll find it interesting to know that despite the fact that I’m terrified of millipedes, and somewhat disgusted by caterpillars, I’m currently fascinated with the appalling creature on my front porch currently growing his/her wings (I think it’s a caterpillar, but all I know for sure is that it has far more legs than necessary.) Why he/she chose the well traveled, unsheltered railing of the front porch to build it’s cocoon is beyond me, but I appreciate its help in aiding my “all things nature” summer vacation check list for the boys.
The truth is that caterpillar doesn’t particularly care who is watching it as it prepares for change…it only knows that change is imminent. And whether we like it or not, change is imminent for all of us. We can’t stop change, so like the caterpillar, we might as well embrace it wherever and whenever it happens, regardless of who is watching. In my life I’ve realized that embracing change also allows us to live in the moment and appreciate our current surroundings/situations/company/etc. Because at any moment, everything could change.
Yes, a little bit of a Heather ramble-approaching-zen-moment for you. But to get to the point, in the blink of an eye it doesn’t only seem like Summer is more than halfway over…it already is. Plans for back to school shopping and fall race season are already in the works. But instead of being overwhelmed by what’s coming, I’m trying to take in all that surrounds me in the here and now. So here’s what I’ve been embracing this week (instead of blogging, oops):
Blindly following the GPS app on my phone and stumbling upon one of the most beautiful places I’ve seen in the state of Vermont:
Playing with the backyard OCR training gear that Geoff surprised me with one night while I was at work. The rope…well it isn’t a climb. But we had it laying around and it is suitable for working grip strength…and getting friendly with that tree. Now I just need a wall (hint, hint, Geoff...)
Running with some of my crazy outside-of-the-box-“running group” friends amid some gorgeous scenery.
Picking backyard berries with the kids.
Just to name a few adventures.
The blog posts will be up and running more frequently in the blink of an eye. But for now I’m going to soak in a little more summer. I hope you all get the chance to do the same!
