A few months ago I was introduced to (and subsequently blogged about) a new product line of all natural supplements from a company called About Time.  To sum the initial review up: I was impressed that the product line was simple and transparent; no unnecessary additives or artificial ingredients.  I’ll be the first to admit that as a health and fitness professional, I’m not always as vigilant as I should be about all of the quality of the food and supplements I put into my body.  I’m working on it, but I’m an admitted work in progress.  As mentioned in my last post, whole foods are always best, but for some of us, supplements are exactly what the name defines: a needed supplement to our diets.  So it was a relief for me to find a sports supplement line that I not only enjoyed the taste of, but could rest easier knowing I wasn’t adding unnecessary chemicals to my body or diet.

This month, I was sent a new product from About Time that I was really excited to try: ProHydrate Protein Water.

About Time ProHydrate Review

Confession: I don’t like a lot of the foods most people like.  Peanut Butter? Disgusting.  Coffee? No thank you.  Chocolate milk?  Ick.   I love to eat but needless to say, I’m kind of picky about the foods that I do eat.  And I am not a huge fan of dairy based or dairy flavored drinks.  This includes, but is not limited to: any sort of coffee product (coolata, frapachino, etc) milkshakes, and yes, even most protein shakes.  I’ve managed to find a few I can stomach, but what *I* crave after a workout is something refreshing, hydrating, and fruity, not something like a standard chocolate or vanilla protein shake.

Enter: About Time Pro Hydrate.

This ready to drink protein kicks ass, and if that could be the end of my review, it would be.   It was love at first sip for me (which was on top of a mountain, as it would be.)

About Time Mountain

I wouldn’t say, however, that the first sip came without hesitation.  Any clear, fruit drink that contains dairy product makes me a little nervous.  I thoroughly expected it to taste thick and heavy, as most protein shakes do.  I was surprised and pleased at how light and refreshing the ProHydrate tasted.   Which makes it perfect for refueling and recovering on incredibly hot days like yesterday… when it was 90 F, I missed lunch, but had to finish mowing the lawn first.  The protein calmed my hunger until I was able to catch a late lunch, and the 12 0z of filtered water helped keep me hydrated in the hot sun.

about Time Pro Hydrate 2

Side note: I’ve unlocked a new blogger achievement…sweaty, awkward, selfie in the sun while trying to simultaneously trying to feature the product, the lawn mower, and drink something.  I quit after this picture and just drank it.

What you need to know about ProHydrate:

  • No artificial colors or flavors.
  • Gluten Free
  • Sweetened with Stevia.
  • 95 Calories/20 g whey protein isolate / 3 g carbohydrates per bottle
  • Available in two flavors: Orange Mango and Raspberry Lemonade
  • About Time Pro Hydrate Nutrition Facts

About Time ProHydrate currently retails for $3.99 per bottle or $39.99/case of 12 ($3.33 each).  This is certainly a stretch from say, a bottle of water or a standard electrolyte replenishing drink.  However, the price is on par with most pre-mixed, ready to drink protein supplements on the market.  In my opinion, ProHydrate is the perfect post workout drink for someone like me  who isn’t a fan of standard issue protein powder.  Better yet, this is something I could absolutely see myself carrying on a very long run or hike, where keeping something like a protein shake cool isn’t an option, but refueling with protein is necessary.  I absolutely forsee this product making an appearance in my food bin at the 48 hour Infinitus Ultra in two weeks.

And if nothing else…ProHydrate makes an all around tasty drink when you feel like you might want an extra dose of protein.  Like I do, right now, while writing this post.

Nice selife 😉 I am loving the ProHydrate, a very refreshing way to get some recovery protein rather than a heavier tasting protein shake
