Yesterday, while watching Wall-E for the 5,934th time, I made a mommy mistake. You see, when you have pre-schoolers, it’s imperative that you word your promises correctly. Pre-schoolers are smart, smart like little FBI interrogators. If you aren’t careful, they will twist your words all around and use their sweet little faces to get basically whatever they want.
And mommy said “OOOH so pretty!! You know, Mommy has been to that castle before…and when you get a little older I will take you there too”.
Seems innocent, right?
My sweet baby boy turns 4 on Monday. 4 years old in his mind, is “old”. He has been using this fact to his advantage in absolutely every way imaginable. “Rowen, can you help me clean this up?” “No, it’s too hard, I’m only 3, I’m not old enough yet. Maybe when I turn 4.” or, “Rowen it’s time to go to bed in YOUR room” “No, I’m scared, I’m not old enough. Maybe when I’m 4 I won’t be so scared…” You get the idea.
And now turning 4 is being used once again to his advantage. Because you see, he’s “going to be ‘older’ on Monday, and mom, you said that when I get ‘older’ you are going to take me to that Castle where Wall-E lives. So we are going soon, right?”
I wish, my little man, I wish! I told him we had plans to go in 2013 for the Goofy challenge (or, “so mommy can run a few really long races”). He asked if 2013 was near Christmas. I told him it was a little more than 2 Christmases away, and he let me know in no uncertain toddler terms that this was unacceptable.
So I had to explain to him that Disney World requires a lot of money.
He offered his tooth fairy money.
I thanked him, and reminded him that he hasn’t lost any teeth yet.
He asked if we could use the “monies” daddy gets when he goes to work.
I told him those “monies” were used to pay the bills and buy us the yummy food in our refrigerator.
And then, my sweet, innocent, 3-almost-4 year old….told me to get a job.
Darn you Disney… for being the most expensive, most magical, with the best, most fun races on earth. Little Rowen isn’t the only one who cant’ wait to go see the Castle!
So…. is anybody hiring? Ha!
