Running on the Wall: review

Race medals.
It’s no secret, I love the finisher’s bling.
I know, I know, everyone says that the true reward in finishing a race is simply the accomplishment of finishing the race.  And yes, while that statement is true, I also really love the allure of a shiny new medal on a brightly colored ribbon at the finish line.  Heck, I’ll shamelessly admit that there were a few races in the past where I bonked, I truly wanted to quit, wanted to take a DNF.  But knowing I wouldn’t get the medal at the finish line kept me putting one foot in front of the other until I crossed that finish line. (Hey, whatever works, right?) I’m proud of my medals and all of the hard work they represent, in both the training and the accomplishment of the race itself.
A few weeks back I was contacted by “Running on the Wall”, makers of eco-friendly bib and medal holders & displays, asking if I was interested in reviewing their products.  I took a look at their web page and really liked what I saw.  I already have some medal hangers from a company I do love, but the products from Running on the Wall were very different: an earthier, more rustic feel as opposed to crisp, modern displays.  Running on the Wall is a running- husband-wife team that was inspired to make these products to display their own race day accomplishments.  Their  “green” products are made of recycled material as much as possible: water paint, mdf recycle sources wood, non-chemical varnish.
When asked which holder I wanted, I browsed through all of the prefabricated designs.  There were many to choose from, both in color and in mantra (more than 100 in fact!).  But the natural feel of these hangers made me think of all of the obstacle course races, trails, and outdoor fun I’ve been having this past year.   So I approached Running on the Wall with an idea for a custom hanger, which they were more than happy to do.  A few days later, this showed up in my mailbox.

The hooks are not attached during shipping but are included, and were very easy to screw in…in fact, my 5 & 3 year olds took it upon themselves to do it for me.  After a short time and a few extra tightening twists by mom, the medal hanger was ready to be hung (which was really easy to do!)

The medal hangers retail starting at $28, so they are a reasonably priced option to display your hard earned bling. And the custom design option makes them a great gift for ANY athlete in your life!  For more information, or to check out all of the awesome designs, check out Running on the Wall at www.runningonthewall.com  or find them on facebook!

How do you display your medals?
If you could have a custom hanger, what would your “mantra” be?

FTC disclosure: Running on the Wall provided me with a medal hanger free of charge, however, all opinions expressed are my own.

Very cool! I think my mantra would be “Are we there yet?” which is what you will be hearing a lot on the 23rd…lol OR maybe it will be, “Dirty Bling” or “Racing Dirty” for all my muddy finishes…

You just reminded me that I need to hang mine. I won one a while back. Mine just says Medals. I never really thought much about what I’d want one to say….Most of my medals were from a point in time when I didn’t even consider myself a runner if that’s not ironic.

SO cool! I made a bib holder like this out of chalkboard paint so I can change my mantra as time goes on!

I love these things! I actually went out and bought a board and painted it and now I just need to get some hooks and I’ll be golden!

I do have a mantra: Believe
I’ve written it on my arm many times for a race…now it is permanently etched there! That would be perfect on a medal rack, too!
